Apparat is an independent film production company founded by Malaysian filmmakers, producer Nandita Solomon and director Dain Iskandar Said, to tell stories through fiction and documentary films, in collaboration with other filmmakers & storytellers from the Asian region and beyond.

 

Apparat produces award-winning and game-changing films in Malaysia that cross-over into international festivals and distribution.

 

Apparat’s first fiction feature, ‘Bunohan’ (2011) was Malaysia’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language Oscar 2013, the 2nd film to ever be submitted by Malaysia. Apparat’s films have screened at Toronto, Rotterdam, London BFI, Jogja Netpac Asian Film Festival, Locarno Piazza Grande, Sitges, Singapore IFF, Bucheon, Udine and many others. Our films have been picked up by Universal Pictures, HBO, Netflix, Disney+ and Discovery.

 

Apparat is a Kuala Lumpur-based private limited company registered with the Registrar of Companies and has valid Malaysian film production and distribution licenses. We are currently developing several feature films, series formats and a feature-length creative documentary, and seeking writers, technical collaborators, co-production partners and sales and distribution partners across various territories.
